An Overview of Cost‑Benefit Analysis

This course provides an introductory overview of cost-benefit analysis (CBA). The course begins by revisiting the foundations of CBA before moving to topics of interest to practitioners, including non-market valuation, discounting, distributional analysis, regulation and summary measures. Attendees will benefit from insights from the literature accompanied by case studies to illustrate key concepts. Drawing on their experience, Catherine and Ken will also provide insights into how CBA plays into decision making in the UK government.e.

Participants will be equipped to disseminate the messages of data in a clear, accurate and meaningful way across various media to general audiences.
It is not necessary to be mathematical to attend, as no formulae are presented. The course will provide 6 hours of CPD time.

Who should attend?

The course is suitable for:

- Economists working on CBA who would benefit from an introductory overview to expand their knowledge in this area to support current or future work

- Economists who may not actively work on CBA but who wish to expand their knowledge in this area.
