This session will discuss approaches to analysis in the process questions in international economic negotiations. The speaker draws on work conducted as part of the economic diplomacy programme at the LSE. This is based on relevant literature and practitioner inputs to assess decision making and negotiation in international economic relations.
This economic diplomacy approach offers a framework for assessing various factors and actors that shape outcomes. For example, how do we understand the factors that result in economically sub-optimal outcomes. In the time available some of the core concepts will be summarised and applied to contemporary issues such as Brexit and Trumpian US trade policy.
Dr Stephen Woolcock is Lecturer in international political economy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He also heads the LSE’s International Trade Policy Unit, which coordinates research on trade topics, runs training programmes for practitioners and organises seminars that bridge the gap between academic research on trade and policy.
The talk will start at 12.30pm and will be held at the offices of Ashurst, Broadwalk House, 5 Appold Street, London, EC2A 2AG. Registration is from 12.00pm. Booking is required: if you wish to attend, please email admin@spe.org.uk
