The Regulation of Large Tech Companies in the UK

Speaker: Prof Amelia Fletcher OBE, Non-Executive Director, Competition and Markets Authority

Venue: Ashurst, Broadwalk House, 5 Appold Street, London, EC2A 2AG

Professor Amelia Fletcher OBE will address this topic, discussing the findings of the review led by Professor Jason Furman into how to guarantee new tech markets support competition in the UK.  This is an exceptional opportunity to hear from Amelia, one of the experts on the panel and former chief economist at the OFT, so soon after the publication of the findings due in Q1 this year.  Amelia will speak for 45 minutes.  This will be followed by a Q&A session.

Amelia was appointed Non-Executive Director of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Board on 1 October 2016. Amelia is also Professor of Competition Policy at the Centre for Competition Policy (CCP) and Norwich Business School at the University of East Anglia.

Previous career highlights include her roles as Chief Economist, Senior Director of Mergers and Senior Director of Policy at the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).

Amelia has written and presented widely on competition and consumer policy, and has a particular interest in behavioural economics. She has a DPhil and MPhil in economics from Nuffield College, Oxford. Amelia was awarded an OBE in the 2014 New Year Honours.
