Level 7 (Masters) Economics Apprenticeship

In the November 2018 SPE newsletter we included a story on a new senior level economist apprenticeship. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), working with public and private sector employers, is developing a new apprenticeship Standard which would allow economists to support their professional development through a Level 7 (Masters degree) apprenticeship. This would be funded by the apprenticeship levy and would provide an additional recruitment avenue for employers who currently limit their recruitment to postgraduate economists.

An apprenticeship Standard needs to be agreed with the Institute for Apprenticeships (IfA) before employers can develop apprenticeship programmes and recruit apprentices. The Standard describes the duties and the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of a level 7 level apprentice. Before the Standard can be approved by the IfA we need to consult with a wide range of employers so that we can be confident that the Standard  has the support of the profession and will have currency in the job market.

We want to hear your views on the draft standard (see downloads) through the completion of this short survey - OPEN SURVEY. The survey does not ask for personal information nor does it ask for any information that could identify your employer. Responses will be stored on a secure server located in BEIS.

We would be grateful for responses by close Friday 15th February 2019.
