
Sir Alan Budd, distinguished economist and founding member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committtee, has died aged 85.
Sir Alan was Vice President of the Society from 2002-2018 and a great supporter of the Society. After various economic roles, Sir Alan became senior economic advisor to HM Treasury and during his distinguished career he was a professor of economics at the Centre of Economic Forecasting at the London Business School and Provost of The Queen’s College, Oxford. He also came out of retirment to be interim Chairman of the Office for Budget Responsibility. He was knighted in 1997 and advanced to GBE in 2013.
He will be very much missed and our thoughts are with his family.
