We start our 2022 programme with a debate on the outlook for the UK economy, with two leading forecasters: Sarah Hewin, Standard Chartered and Fabrice Montagné, Barclays.

Sarah Hewin, Head of Research, Europe and Americas, Standard Chartered Bank, leads research on Europe and the Americas. She has many years of experience covering G7 and emerging-market macroeconomic, investment and country-risk issues. She frequently broadcasts on TV for the BBC, Sky, CNBC and Bloomberg, and on radio for the BBC and Bloomberg. She is based in London. Before joining the Bank in 2008, Sarah was a senior economist at American Express Bank based in London, New York and Hong Kong, where she was responsible for delivering economics and investment advice on Europe, the US and Asia. Previously, she worked at Lloyds Bank and at the European Commission in Brussels. She read economics at Girton College, Cambridge.

Fabrice Montagné is Chief UK Economist at Barclays. Previously, he was a senior European economist responsible for French, Greek and euro area macroeconomics. Mr. Montagné joined Barclays in January 2012 from the Dutch Central Bank where he was responsible for balance sheet, asset/liability management and strategic asset allocation decisions in the Financial Market division. Prior to that, he worked at the French Treasury and Fonds de Reserves pour les Retraites. Mr. Montagné graduated from Ecole Polytechnique, has an MSc in Economics and Statistics from ENSAE, and an MSc in Economic Analysis and Policy from the Paris School of Economics.
