Adam Giles is the guest speaker for the October lunchtime masterclass on “Machine Learning and Economics”.
Adam has a background in statistics and economics, and works as a Technical Specialist in the FCA’s Economics department. Adam’s work focusses on using large micro datasets to develop and evaluate policies in retail financial services markets. Alongside this, Adam works on the FCA’s research strategy in technology, big data, and AI.
During the session, the talk will cover:
- An introduction to machine learning for economists, and how it differs from econometrics
- Using prediction for policy
- Using machine learning to identify casual effects
Those with some experience of applied econometrics will get more out of the talk, but it will focus on concepts and methods rather than detailed statistics or algebra.
Registration is from 12pm; the talk will start promptly at 12.30pm. Booking is required: if you wish to attend, please email admin@spe.org.uk
