Stephen Meredith is Deputy Director, Head of Housing and Planning Analysis at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities where he is responsible for providing advice to Ministers on the performance of the housing market; policies relating to the planning system, increasing housing supply and home ownership, and improving quality within the social and private rented sectors; and the appraisal and evaluation of housing interventions. Prior to joining DLUHC, Stephen’s career in the Government’s Economic Service has involved spells at the Department for Education, Department for Business Innovation and Skills and the Department for Work and Pensions, working on issues relating to the higher education and skills system, state and private pensions, the labour market, income inequality and social investment. He holds a BA and an MSc in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Nottingham.

He joined the SBE Council in November 2016.
