This two-day course provides an overview of the main macroeconomic models and concepts, relating them to major events that have affected and shaped the UK macroeconomy from the great Depression to today. The course sets out the basic “workhorse” macroeconomic models including neoclassical aggregate economics, Keynesian ‘hydraulic’ models, the IS/LM model and neo-classical synthesis, through to the ‘New consensus’ 3-equation model, ending with an intuitive introduction to Real Business Cycle, dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) and ‘New Keynesian’ models.

The course will be taught by Professor Andy Ross. Professor Andy Ross is a highly regarded economist who has worked extensively in government and academia. Andy is currently a Visiting Professor at Birkbeck and Loughborough Universities where he teaches macroeconomics. Andy previously worked at HM Treasury as Deputy Director Government Economic Service and Head of Professional Development. Andy’s publications include co-authoring It’s the economy stupid and How to be a successful economist. Andy is a Patron of the Economic Network, a Fellow of the Academy of Social Science, a Fellow of the Institute of Continuous Professional Development and a Fellow of the Society of Professional Economists.
