Speaker: Freddy Curtis, Economist, Arup

Ever wondered what it’s like to work in one of the world’s largest banks? Or what it is like to work at the heart of government, for a regulator or in professional services? The SPE is delighted to invite you to an evening of insight and fun where you can discuss careers with recent graduates in small groups. This event is designed for our SPE student members.

The event will be hosted by Ryan Harding, Senior Economist at ICF. Our guest speakers include:

Sinéad Boultwood is a Senior Associate Economist at Ofcom, currently working on radio spectrum policy. She has a Masters degree apprenticeship in economics from Queen Mary, University of London, and an undergraduate degree in Economic and Social Policy from Birkbeck, University of London. She joined Ofcom on the graduate scheme in 2019, and has worked across the broadcasting, telecoms and online sectors. She is a committee member of Ofcom’s staff network for disability and neurodiversity, and has a particular interest in encouraging people from under-represented groups into the economics profession.

Freddy Curtis is an Economist at Arup, with two years of experience quantifying and projecting economic and environmental impacts in climate, transport and housing spaces through cost-benefit analyses and econometric evaluations. He is also currently seconded part-time to the Climate Change Committee as an Analyst, supporting the economic analysis underpinning the UK’s fourth Climate Change Risk Assessment.

Louis Allen is UK Rates Strategist at Santander Corporate & Investment Banking. He joined Santander’s graduate scheme in 2024 having previously enrolled in an 8 week internship within the Global Debt Financing division in 2023, moving from this area to his current role in the Global Markets division when the scheme ended.

Lucy Pearce is a junior economist at the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero and Government Economic Service Degree Apprenticeship (GESDAP) graduate.  Her current role focuses on delivering analysis and research that takes a whole system view to set direction and inform decisions needed to balance a secure, affordable and decarbonised power system. Previously, she worked on policies for heat and electricity networks, as well as industrial energy.
